We are honoured to be helping support D Day Veterans to mark the 80th anniversary of the D Day landings in Normandy this year. Brighter Days Care has made a donation to the work of The Spirit of Normandy Trust, specifically towards their plans to escort veterans to the annual Normandy Memorial Service this coming June.

The Spirit of Normandy Trust is a small volunteer-run charity that relies heavily on donations to be able to perform its annual pilgrimage to France, which has proved an invaluable experience for veterans. The average age of the D Day veterans is now 98 years old, and they can gain so much from revisiting the sites of the landings and battles and through sharing their stories and experiences with others.

The 5-day trip will encompass ceremonies at the new British Normandy Memorial, Colleville Montgomery, Bayeux Cemetery, Caen and Arrowmanches. The veterans will also be commemorating with elements of the British Army and meeting with local dignitaries and children during their visit. There will also be the chance for veterans to individually visit any graves that are important to them.

The Trust is hoping to take 9 veterans and 1 war widow on this journey and the money we donated via The Regiment Support Service will help fund their travel, accommodation and care costs. We are delighted to be supporting this venture and thrilled to receive our certificate of appreciation.
